Assistant Director of Middle School Academy
The TEAK Fellowship is seeking an experienced education professional to join its Middle School Academy team. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with students and families, as well as classroom teaching experience in either Humanities or Mathematics. Applicants should be willing to travel and work in Queens during the school year (September through June).
TEAK is a ten-year enrichment program that empowers New York City students from under-resourced communities through intensive after-school and summer academic programming, transformative cultural experiences, secondary school and college guidance, a vibrant internship program, and a robust support system. TEAK students earn admission to some of the nation's most prestigious academic institutions, graduating debt free and prepared to make a meaningful impact to their communities through their leadership and service.
Core Responsibilities
Serve as a TEAK Dean, providing academic and social-emotional advising for ~35 Fellows (7th & 8th grade)
Serve as Summer Institute Class Dean (student growth concerns, field trips, Summer Institute staff duties)
Support TEAK programming through committees, Saturday programming, and additional duties
Cross Department Collaboration
Serve as a Reader for the Admissions Committee
Participate in Admissions Committee processes
Review High School Placement letters of recommendation
Operations and Administration
Supervise one off-site afterschool program (logistics, Google Classroom setup, sectioning)
Review and publish Middle School Academy and Summer Institute grade reports (Salesforce)
Ensure Salesforce records are up to date (attendance, grades, engagement, success plans, status reports)
Direct Instruction
Teach one SEL section and one section of Humanities or Math during the school year and Summer Institute.
Deaning and Advising
Track and support Fellows’ academic progress and social-emotional development
Maintain accurate and updated student records in Salesforce
Support Fellow success planning and interventions
Meet regularly with Fellows and maintain records (check-ins, status reports in Salesforce)
Provide advising through Guided Study Halls and Office Hours
Refer students for counseling support as needed
Meet with the Director of Counseling to discuss students of concern
Provide individual essay support
Serve as primary point of contact for Fellows’ families
Schedule and lead family meetings
Maintain ongoing communication with families
Program Management
Assist with administration of one additional TEAK program associated with Middle School Academy (Cultural Arts at TEAK on Saturdays, Mentorship, Fellows Forum, Career Programming)
Essential Qualifications
3+ years of education and/or non-profit experience
Demonstrated interest and dedication to TEAK’s Mission, Core Values, and Equity mission
Strong administrative, written, and interpersonal skills with attention to detail
Proactive team player with the ability to be flexible and contribute to a collaborative work environment
Proficiency with GSuite (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides)
Familiarity/proficiency with Salesforce
Willingness to adopt and integrate AI tools to strengthen program operations.
Fluency in Spanish, Chinese, and/or Bengali preferred.
Salary range is $70,000 - $80,000, experience depending. Applicants must be US citizens or have a valid work visa.
